Aircraft Maintenance.

Maintenance of an aircraft must never include “short cuts”. Our fleet of turbine engine driven aircraft require and receive much more rigorous inspection and component Aircraft Maintenance Servicestracking requirements than do the piston engine aircraft that you may be familiar with.

Our in-house maintenance staff has extensive experience on several aircraft types and which include both piston and turbine engine aircraft.

All maintenance is performed by FAA licensed mechanics and repairmen.  In addition, all personnel are enrolled in a Drug and Alcohol Abatement surveillance program as required by the FAA.

Why do I need to capacity check my aircraft battery?

Aircraft Battery Testing

Aircraft batteries are easy to forget about until they cause problems. They are expensive but essential to the operation of your aircraft.

When you try to start a reciprocating piston aircraft engine with a weak battery you might be greeted with just a clunk or clicking from the starter solenoid. Try the same thing on a turbine engine and you run the risk of hot-starting the engine and causing hundreds of thousands of dollars damage to your engine.

Electric start turbine engines place a huge load on the battery. Starting a PT6 will usually draw over 300 amps. The starter is assisting the engine to accelerate almost all of the way up to idle speed. Without this assistance in spinning up the engine there will be insufficient airflow through the engine relative to the amount of fuel being introduced and the internal engine temperature will quickly exceed the level that the turbine blades and stators can tolerate.

Capacity testing of the battery accomplishes two important purposes:

  1. It verifies that the battery has enough energy to supply the huge short term demand of the starter.
  2. It verifies that the battery has enough energy to keep the avionics and aircraft systems working long enough for you get your aircraft on the ground in the event of a total electric generator failure.

We provide aircraft battery capacity testing services to help protect you and your aircraft from experiencing the problems listed above. This is an essential test for turbine engine powered aircraft and is specified in their maintenance manuals. Capacity testing of batteries in piston engine aircraft is also valuable so that you don’t discover at an inopportune moment that your generator has failed and your battery doesn’t have enough energy reserve to get you safely back on the ground.

We test all brands of lead-acid aircraft batteries, both 12V and 24V. We also offer great prices on Concorde AGM and flooded (wet cells with caps) batteries. We also carry the BatteryMINDer line of Charger / Maintainer / Desulfator units to help keep your expensive battery in top condition for longest possible life.

You are welcome to bring your battery to our shop or one of our mechanics can complete removal and re-installation for you. The entire testing process takes up to three days. The battery is top-charged, tested and then recharged.
